Petition updateA Town Square and Riverside Park for Twickenham.
#ParkNotCarParkPresentation to Twickenham Town Business Association (TTBA)

Twickenham Riverside Park Team

1 Oct 2017
On Wednesday Deon Lombard, RIBA, presented our Twickenham Riverside Park concept plan to the TTBA Networking Meeting.
There were lots of questions about the feasibility of underground parking. Deon explained how this would remove all the cars from the riverside, and that the underground car park would be safe from flooding because the vehicle entrance and exits would be at the top end of Water and Wharf Lanes. He also advised that he had designed a much larger underground car park on The Island at Brentford Lock, between the River Brent and Grand Union canals.
The meeting attendees showed great interest in the following features of the Park Not Car Park proposal:
• An attractive riverside park with an improved playground
• A performance area between the riverside park and town square
• A town square with views over the park to the river
• Pedestrianisation of the whole riverside park and town square area
• Boathouses for water based activities such as paddleboarding
• Cafes and restaurants on the square overlooking the river
• The possibility of a lido
• The possibility of a boutique hotel
• Potential uses of the town square such as farmers markets, other markers, fairs and an ice rink
• Potential to create an entrance from King Street
• Potential for King Street owners to develop the rear of their buildings overlooking the square
In general, they felt that the proposal is exactly what Twickenham needs to attract residents and visitors to the town centre, thus boosting trade.
