A sustainable waste management program for Knox. Let's save our oceans.

I am asking for your support in changing the way that we manage waste in our community of Knox, in order to do our part in protecting our oceans.
I am sure that you can agree, the importance of reducing single-use plastics and reducing waste, in general, is more important now than ever before. According to UNESCO (specifically the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission), in 2006 the United Nations Environment Programme estimated that every square mile of ocean contained 46,000 pieces of floating plastic. This was 12 years ago... so with an increasing population and an increase in production and consumption of plastic products, the amount of plastic contaminating our oceans is now, according to the United Nations Environment Programme, 8 million tonnes per year. Plastic pollution and waste generation will continue to increase if we do not take action now, and if continued at this rate, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050.
Please help me to convince our government that we want to see change.
We want a ban on single-use plastics.
We want an increased number of waste bins around our community, that include waste separation bins. (Eg. Paper, Plastic, Organics, Cans, Glass, Landfill) and also more cigarette bins.
We want educational programs in schools that focus on waste reduction and REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, ROT. To teach young Australians that every action, as small as it may seem, will affect the world around us. NO MORE ‘out of sight, out of mind’ attitudes when disposing of waste and MORE encouragement to be 'conscious consumers'.
We want the installation of filtered water refill stations to discourage the use of single-use water bottles, and to encourage the use of refillable water bottles.
We want our government to recognise the importance of these issues and the importance of the creation and maintenance of a sustainable waste management program.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read and sign this petition, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping my voice and the voice of our planet be heard!
