A Skatepark is Needed in Hummelstown

A Skatepark is Needed in Hummelstown
The Issue
My name is Day Weaver. I am a passionate skateboarder living in Hummelstown. Our community of Hummelstown currently lacks a place where skateboarders can engage in our passion safely. This is a reality that needs to be changed. A proposed public skatepark in Hummelstown is not only essential for skateboarders; it's for all outdoor activity enthusiasts, including BMX riders.
Under section "5-207" of traffic regulations in Hummelstown, the use of skateboards is prohibited. This means that there is no place in Hummelstown where you can even touch a skateboard to a road without violating the policy. Although reasonable to protect the climate of the town, the town does not provide even a single area in the town where skateboarding is permitted. This amplifies the need for town skatepark, as without a designated area to skate skateboarders are forced to resort to public spaces, sidewalks, and even streets. This not only leads to potential safety hazards but also creates conflicts with pedestrians and drivers.
Expanding outdoor active spaces such as skatepark helps promote physical health and social interaction among our youth. It will also remove risks that many skateboarders face in Hummelstown. It will reduce the police using their resources towards a problem that many consider a passion, and will create a healthier town-resident relationship by reducing these issues.
However, building this park will require funding, and approval. It is a serious financial commitment that our town must address. Therefore, solutions should be offered to explore avenues of funding like grants, public-private partnerships, or community fundraising. As it currently stands, we have no funding to back up the change we want to see, and little no current support.
To be part of first step towards a healthier, happier, and greater Hummelstown, we ask you to use your voice and sign the petition, as change cannot happen without your support.
