A Safer Fernleigh Track For All

A Safer Fernleigh Track For All
The issue
Users of the Fernleigh Track are increasingly reporting serious safety concerns. Women, in particular, have faced intimidating, unsafe and criminal behaviour while using this popular track. Additionally, the reckless use of electric scooters and unregistered trail bikes has heightened the risk for families, children, and the elderly.
These issues not only threaten physical safety but also discourage women and vulnerable people from exercising freely, particularly during early mornings and evenings.
Community safety and wellbeing should always be a priority. We urge Lake Macquarie City and Newcastle City Council to take responsibility to ensure a safe public space for women and vulnerable people.
We see these safety measures as a starting point for the council to consider: the installation of CCTV cameras, adequate lighting, regular police patrol, established emergency contact points, clear signs detailing penalties for violators and effective law enforcement.
We imagine a future where every person feels safe to enjoy this track at any time of day. Sign and share this petition and stand with us in advocating for a safe, secure Fernleigh Track.
