The Issue

This petition is about one clear ask: Barrhaven needs a real, non-stop express bus between Fallowfield and Tunney's Pasture — and it needs it now.

Ottawa's new $29 million transit plan was approved on July 15 to handle the surge in commuters from the federal government's four-day return-to-office mandate starting this fall. The City is preparing for roughly 65,000 additional weekly trips from federal workers heading downtown.

Barrhaven and its neighbouring communities are home to an estimated 30,000 residents who work for the federal government — one of the largest concentrations of exactly the commuters this plan was meant to serve.

Yet when the plan was finalized:

Kanata and the west end received brand new non-stop express routes to Tunney's Pasture.
The east end received a new non-stop express route to Blair Station.
Barrhaven received only more trips on existing routes 74 and 75 — no express route, just a busier version of the same stop-everywhere service.

For parents, that's another 20–30 minutes each way stuck on a route that stops at every corner instead of getting them home in time for dinner. For workers, that's another hour of their day lost to a commute that could be cut in half with a direct route. For a whole community, that's thousands of hours stolen from families, every single week.

Even Councillor Wilson Lo raised this exact gap in his July 21 newsletter, calling for a genuine non-stop express connection between Fallowfield and Tunney's Pasture to match what other growing suburbs are getting.

Our priority is clear: add a real non-stop express route between Barrhaven (Fallowfield) and Tunney's Pasture — the same standard of service other parts of the city received in this plan.

We pay the same taxes. We deserve the same transit. And 30,000 federal workers deserve a commute that doesn't steal time from their families every single day.
