Dear XSEED Games and Nihon Falcom,

We, the dedicated fans of the Trails series, are writing to respectfully request that you collaborate on an official English-language release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel I and Trails of Cold Steel II for the Nintendo Switch (and Switch 2 compatible).

The entire Cold Steel saga is one of the most beloved story-driven JRPG series of the past decade. Trails of Cold Steel III and IV are already available in full English on Nintendo Switch, allowing thousands of players to experience the epic conclusion on Nintendo’s portable hardware. However, the foundational first two games—masterfully localized into English by XSEED years ago—remain unavailable in English on the Switch.

While Japanese/Asian “Kai” versions of Cold Steel I and II were released on Switch in 2021 by Clouded Leopard Entertainment, they contain no English text or localization. Fans who want to play the complete saga on one platform are currently forced to either:

Play on PC, PS4, or Vita, or
Use unofficial mods on a modded Switch (which is not an official or accessible solution for most players).
The Nintendo Switch is the perfect platform for these games. Its hybrid design makes it ideal for long-form JRPGs that players love to enjoy on the go or at home. The Trails series has a massive and growing global fanbase, and many new players discover the series through the Switch versions of Cold Steel III and IV. Giving them easy access to the beginning of the saga on the same console would create a seamless experience, introduce even more players to the world of Zemuria, and honor the incredible work XSEED has already done localizing these titles.

Nihon Falcom has already demonstrated that these games can run beautifully on Switch hardware. XSEED has a proven track record of delivering high-quality English localizations for the series. A joint effort to bring the official English versions to Switch would be a win for fans, for both companies, and for the continued success of the Trails franchise.

We urge XSEED Games and Nihon Falcom to work together to publish official English versions of Trails of Cold Steel I and II on Nintendo Switch as soon as possible. The demand is clear, the technology exists, and the fans are ready.
