The Anglican Diocese of Tasmania has announced the intent to consider the sale of almost 100 church properties across Tasmania.  St Thomas' at Avoca (1842) is included on that list (please note that this is a preliminary list and no firm decisions appear to have been made yet).  Sale will result in the loss of this hub of the community to public access - meaning that the church will likely no longer be available for worship, funerals, weddings, christenings etc. The church was built by the founders of the district, for the community - not for a private individual.  Whilst heritage listing protects the building, inevitably the contents, significant furniture etc. will be removed. The sale proceeds will be taken out of the community and 176 years of tradition will be irretrievably lost.  This petition seeks the opinions of the community and all those with a connection to the church with the aim of expressing the non-support of sale of the church.
