A New Skatepark For West Bromwich

The Issue

I am a product of West Bromwich, raised on the concrete of our local, outdated skatepark. It was there that I found my purpose and channelled my energy into something constructive - skateboarding. Despite its unsafe conditions, it served as a haven for me during both good days and bad. Now, we have an opportunity to provide this same refuge to our current generation but in a safer and more conducive environment.

We are calling for the construction of a state of the art skatepark in West Bromwich. One that is safe, friendly and designed with action sports users in mind. This isn't just about providing space for physical activity; it's about fostering mental health too. Action sports like skating offer an outlet for youth to express themselves creatively while building resilience and self-confidence.

According to Sport England's Active Lives Children Survey (2019), only 17.5% of children in England meet the daily recommended level of physical activity. A new skatepark could help increase this percentage locally by offering an attractive alternative to traditional sports.

Furthermore, research from The Lancet Psychiatry Journal suggests regular physical activity can reduce the risk of depression by up to 30%. By creating an engaging space where our youth can pursue their passions safely, we're not just promoting their physical well-being but also contributing positively towards their mental health.

Let us give our young people the chance I had - but better! Let’s build them a skatepark in West Bromwich that they can be Proud of somewhere they can push their sport boundaries while nurturing their minds too. Please sign this petition today and support our call for investment into youth development through action sports facilities.

 Thank you!
