My son and many of his teammates have been playing football since they were five years old. As a dedicated team, at the middle school level, they have consistently pushed their limits and even made it to the regionals for the past two years, securing a victory in the 2023 season. We do understand that entering high school is a whole new skill level and we play in a tough division. This does not mean that we cannot be competitive with other teams in the division. 
It is heartbreaking as a parent to see my son and his teammates losing their passion for the game due to the current coaching staff at Rowan County Senior High School.

Coach Ford has been in his position for 9 years with a record of 1-8 for the year. There have been injuries that have affected our team however this is not the total cause for all of our failures. The coaching staff has not worked with or developed our players. They frequently blame them for the losses and often go into a game with no plan.  The players on this team are beat down, defeated, and broken. 

The boys no longer feel important to the coaching staff. They feel fractured and lack the sense of unity that once drove them to countless victories. This has led not only to a deterioration in their performance but also in their love for football—something they have cherished for so many years. These young athletes who have shown promise and dedication deserve better.

For many families like ours in Morehead, Kentucky, football isn't just a game; it's an integral part of growing up and community bonding. These children have dedicated years of hard work, commitment, and heart to this sport, only to feel let down by the very leadership that should be inspiring them.

We are calling for a change in the coaching leadership at Rowan County Senior High School. By introducing a coaching team that values communication, teamwork, and encouragement, we can restore not only the spirit of our boys but also the integrity and pride of our football program.

According to studies from the National Federation of State High School Associations, students who participate in sports experience improved academic performance and learn crucial life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and resilience. The current coaching system is undermining these potential benefits.

By appointing new, passionate coaches who are committed to nurturing our high school athletes, we can rejuvenate the enthusiasm and spirit of Rowan County's football program.
