The air pollution crisis is claiming 1.7 million Indian lives annually and causing irreversible damage to our children’s health, making India home to some of the world's most polluted cities. The economic losses run into billions, draining the vitality of our workforce and hindering progress. But beyond statistics, this is about the aspirations of a nation that deserves to thrive, not merely survive.  

 

 A Crisis That Transcends Borders  

From Delhi’s asphyxiating smog to Bengaluru’s construction dust and Punjab’s stubble smoke, pollution knows no boundaries. Farmers, factory workers, and urbanites alike bear the brunt of years of policy stagnation, systemic inefficiency, and poor enforcement. Existing funds, like those under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), are underutilized, while promises of industrial regulation and vehicular reforms remain buried in bureaucratic inertia.

1. The Polluters Must Pay: Introduce a robust taxation mechanism for industries and individuals contributing to pollution. Use this revenue exclusively for clean energy initiatives, public transport, and air quality management.  

 

2. Empower Farmers, Empower the Nation: Provide mechanized, affordable alternatives to stubble burning. Mobilize community-based biomass projects to convert waste into wealth, ensuring farmers no longer need to choose between their livelihoods and the nation’s health.  

 

3. Public Transport for the People: Invest massively in eco-friendly public transport systems. Let us build a nation where private vehicles become a choice, not a necessity.  

 

4. Transparent Air Quality Data: Citizens have the right to know the truth. Publish real-time, city-wise air quality rankings to hold administrations accountable for their performance.  

 

5. A Decade of Dedicated Action: Launch a decade-long national mission to integrate pollution control across industries, waste management, and urban planning. Make pollution control a top national priority.
