Redcliffe Needs a Safe Swimming Enclosure NowThis is my son Jai.
He’s nonverbal, autistic, and absolutely drawn to the water. But without a shark-safe enclosure, I can’t let him swim freely at Redcliffe. A few years ago, he was nearly lost to the ocean. That moment changed everything.
This photo was taken at Stradbroke Island one of the last times Jai was truly safe to swim in the ocean. Stradbroke has several swimming enclosures. Redcliffe has none.
Redcliffe Needs a Shark-Safe Swimming Enclosure for Everyone.
We need infrastructure that protects vulnerable swimmers not just policies that say “no.” Let’s build a safe enclosure at a Redcliffe beach so families like mine don’t have to choose between joy and danger.
A shark safe swimming enclosure would allow families to swim in the ocean with confidence, dignity, and inclusion. This isn’t a luxury it’s a public safety necessity.
Yes, Redcliffe has public pools. But this isn’t about chlorinated water.
It’s about safe ocean access.
Vulnerable swimmers deserve better.
Children with disabilities, elderly residents, and those with mobility challenges deserve the freedom to enjoy the beach without fear of sharks or unsafe conditions.
For families like mine, the beach isn’t just a place to unwind it’s a lifeline. But right now, we’re being left behind.
Redcliffe once led the way with shark-proof infrastructure.
It’s time to lead again.
Modern barrier nets protect swimmers from large marine animals
Environmentally safe and tide-adaptive
Already working in other Aussie communities
This isn’t just about sharks.
It’s about dignity, safety, and equal access.
