Petition to Upgrade and Repair Galloway Reserve, Galloway Road, O'Sullivan Beach 5165

We are requesting that the courts be completely rebuilt, upgraded and made safe for all ages to use. Demolition without replacement is not a solution. Our community deserves a local, safe, usable reserve. Not everyone can drive to other suburbs to use their reserves, and we shouldn't have to. We love this area and want to see it invested in, not removed. The reserve has fallen into serious disrepair. The surfaces of the two lower courts are riddled with massive cracks, lifting and gaping holes. The fencing around the lower courts is broken with sharp metal and barbed wire sticking out. The seating consists of old tin and metal seats that are dirty, messy and have a disturbing smell. The upper cement area consists of two parts the old courts that are now bare, beside the ground painting area. These upper spaces are completely empty and unused. There are no bins, no BBQ, no filtered drinking fountains, and no dog waste bag system. We feel more should be added to the playground, with more playground equipment suitable for all children's ages. The few exercise equipment pieces we do have are kind of pointless and should be removed and replaced with a more updated version of exercise equipment that you see at other reserves and park areas. The stone car park is unsafe and uninviting. The unsafe flooring and broken fencing pose a significant safety risk, particularly for children, families and the elderly who use the reserve.

What We Hope For

Lower Courts

New, durable, safe flooring to replace the hazardous surfaces, new secure fencing, and new clean and comfortable seating and new shelter. Designate the two lower courts for tennis and basketball, or add a netball court to the empty upper space near the entry. This will support a wider range of sports activities and encourage more community engagement.

Upper Area

Fence off and utilise the two parts of the old upper courts that are now bare beside the painting area, and the other large empty cement spaces, for additional sports equipment and activities, including filtered drinking fountains for humans and dogs, equipment for local dogs, and a dog waste bag system. Make the stone car park safe, friendly and inviting

Playground

Add more playground equipment with variety suitable for all children's ages, plus an additional seating area near the playground, bins, and an outdoor BBQ.

Exercise Area

Remove the existing outdated exercise equipment and replace it with updated exercise equipment for all ages, similar to what is seen at other reserves.

Galloway Reserve has been a cherished part of the community for many years, but without upgrades and repairs it will only continue to deteriorate. Other community reserves have received upgrades — why can’t we? Upgrading this reserve will provide a safe and enjoyable space for recreation, exercise and social interaction. It will encourage families who used to come here to make memories but no longer do because of the hazards to return, and give our community a reason to be proud of its spaces.
