Petition updateA call to international investors to cease investment in MTR Hong KongWhat has changed two years on? Australian Super, Metro trains, Hong Kong

Dear petition supporters,

831 (31 August) is upon Hongkongers again. Two years since the start of this petition, the repression of people's rights, freedoms, media, civil society, education... has only become more severe in communist Hong Kong. And as usual, we don't expect any commemoration allowed at the MTR's Prince Edward station in Hong Kong, let alone getting justice and truth from any authority.

Meanwhile, Metro trains have significantly expanded in Sydney, covering not just NW, but through to North Sydney and into the City, and will soon head SW. No one seems to complain about this important infrastructure being operated by a business whose Hong Kong parent had facilitated the 831 attack just six years ago, and which is now essentially a Chinese business under CCP control. Talk about foreign control of infrastructure in Australia?!

On a brighter note - Australian Super's "ethical fund" called Socially Aware, after more pressure from CHOICE and ASIC regarding greenwashing (whitewashing of green/ethical claims), has quietly removed MTR from the fund holdings YAYY.. However their Balanced fund, the main super fund offering, and International Shares fund, still hold MTR shares. If any Australian is still unfortunate enough to be stuck with Australian Super, you might consider switching to Socially Aware now. (See screencap - no MTR)

I am not declaring victory for this petition yet - far from it. We still have a long way to go to inform others, Australian and international, about MTR and 831. Ultimately, if there is no justice in Hong Kong, there is no moving on.

Not even on those fast Metro trains.
