Stop the Ororo Oil Well Fire Burning since April 2020 in Nigeria

This petition is on an ongoing flaming ecological tragedy off the coast of Awoye community, Ondo State, Nigeria. Ororo-1 Oil/gas well blowout, at OML95 in April 2020 and has been on fire for over three years.

Inhabitants of the impacted area have had their livelihoods severely affected by this disaster.Their primary means of survival - fishing - has been harmed due to the contamination of the marine ecosystem by the raging fire and accompanying oil spill. Their economy has been destroyed, and meeting their basic needs has been severely disrupted.


When the well blowout occurred, the then-Nigerian Department of Petroleum Resources said it would be extinguished in 6 weeks. Over three years afterward, the Nigerian government has done nothing to extinguish the flames or stop the oil spill.
