A CALL TO DEVELOP CHILDREN AEGIS FUND IN TANZANIA
The Issue
A better future belongs more to capable than to weak people and the best way to prepare it is by creating it NOW! This is why we work to build community capacity right from childhood so as to capacitate and secure the better future for everyone especially Tanzanian children.
Tanzanian communities are composed of children and youths by up to 79% according to Tanzania in figures report of June 2019 by National Bureau of statistics (NBS 2019).
The two age groups are faced by so many challenges among of which being access to quality education. According to Women and Men Facts and Figures Report of 2018, the average primary school completion rate for girls is only 53% compared to only 47% for boys. For secondary schools, is only 56% of girls as compared to 44% of boys who complete secondary school, where by the main reason of low rate of completion being truancy (NBS 2018).
On the other hand, access to quality and readily available medical care to them remains to be a mainstay problem. According to statistics available, as of 2019, the coverage of Health Insurance is only 32% of the total population with children included, whereby of all the 32 percent, only 8% are on National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), which by far provides beneficiaries with more wide and expensive medical care in Tanzania as compared to other insurance coverages.
Moreover, the beneficiaries of the insurance fund include; contributing members, spouses and up to four dependents, of which orphans and children from poor families are unlikely to be among the beneficiaries.
Children Aegis Fund or simply Watoto (Children) Fund is a special open-end fund for Tanzanian children. The fund was initially anticipated to cater for the needs of vulnerable children in Tanzanian communities.
Among of the needs that the fund is to cater for are provision of basic school needs such as School Uniforms (shoes and sanitary pads for adolescent girls inclusive) exercise books (pens and pencils inclusive) with school bags, school lunch contribution as well as National Health Insurance Fund Cards for vulnerable children, specifically.
The fund will also help with the day to day cost of running a project organization office. This will include office rent, stationaries water and electricity cost. However, all of the expenses will follow after children needs are fully availed and this principle is to be held still in fund utilization policy.
One child needs at least 350,000 TShs. or 155 USD. To get a pair of school uniforms with shoes, exercise books, school bag sanitary pads for girls and national health insurance fund card and school lunch contribution for the whole year.
We will salvage the future of many Tanzanian children through our donations to the Children Aegis fund
