The Philippines' being one of the "sachet economies" in the world brought convenience to Filipino consumers because of its low cost. However, our convenience brings misery to marine life. Our single-use plastic ends up in the bodies of water, which threatens the lives of marine life.

In fact, the Philippines is one of the world's biggest polluters of marine plastic, with 0.28 to 0.75 million tons of plastic entering the oceans each year from Manila Bay's coastal areas. GAIA 2020 estimates that the country utilizes about 60 billion sachets per year.

Although there are city ordinances that prohibit the unnecessary use of single-use plastics, the government falls short of bringing this aspect to the national level. Thus, I/we demand to ban the use of single-use plastic and that the government must address this matter seriously.
