A Call for Transparent and Equitable NIL Compensation for Women in Collegiate Sports

The Issue

To All Advocates for Fairness in College Athletics,

I urgently call upon your support to address a pressing concern in college sports: the appalling gender disparity in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) compensation. In June of 2023, in a public forum, an industry insider disclosed that male athletes received 95% of NIL compensation, illustrating a stark imbalance in the distribution of these funds. This disparity not only undermines the principles of gender equality but also places more than 230,000 female athletes, competing across 31 NCAA sports, at a significant disadvantage. Female athletes' economic value peaks during college as they have far fewer opportunities to play professional sports after graduation.

Female athletes work just as hard as their male counterparts, on and off the field, and it is time for our elected officials to recognize that. We urge federal legislators to ensure transparency in NIL transactions, which will aid in the equitable distribution of compensation. They must take action to help female athletes receive their fair share, reflecting their contribution to college sports and protecting them from financial exploitation.

Your signature on this petition is crucial. It represents a collective voice demanding justice and equity in college sports, particularly for women who have been historically under-compensated and marginalized in this arena. Federal legislators can take action to remedy this grievous inequity, but only if they hear the collective concern of their constituents. Let your voice be heard!

Thank you for being so supportive in championing gender equity in college athletics.
