The Issue

Issue Description: The Bible clearly warns against practices associated with witchcraft, sorcery, and occult activity. For many Christians in Bowie and Montague County, these warnings are taken seriously and inform how they seek to live faithfully before God and within their community. Concern has arisen as certain businesses or events associated with occult practices have received public attention or promotion. While Christians recognize the freedom of individuals to make personal choices, community endorsement presents a moral concern when it appears to normalize practices Scripture identifies as spiritually harmful. This petition is a respectful appeal to civic and community leaders to consider the spiritual impact of public endorsements and to exercise wisdom and neutrality in matters that conflict with biblical teaching. Petition Text:
We, the undersigned members of the Christian community in Bowie, Texas, and surrounding areas of Montague County, respectfully submit this petition to local civic and community leaders out of reverence for God, obedience to Scripture, and love for our neighbors. Our concern is not rooted in hatred or hostility toward any individual, but in a sincere desire to uphold biblical values within our community. As Christians, we believe Scripture clearly teaches that practices associated with witchcraft, sorcery, and occult activity are contrary to God’s will and harmful to spiritual well-being (Deuteronomy 18:10–12; Galatians 5:19–21; Acts 19:19). While we affirm the dignity and freedom of every person, we respectfully ask that our local government and community organizations refrain from endorsing, promoting, or partnering with businesses or events that openly engage in or celebrate occult practices. Endorsement implies approval, and many residents of this community hold deep convictions that such practices conflict with our shared moral and spiritual heritage. Scripture reminds us, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). As citizens and believers, we believe it is appropriate to voice our concerns and request that our leaders consider the spiritual and moral impact of their endorsements on the community as a whole. This petition is not a call for harassment, discrimination, or coercion. Rather, it is a peaceful and respectful appeal for discernment, responsibility, and neutrality in community support and promotion. We respectfully ask our leaders to:
- Refrain from endorsing or promoting businesses centered on occult practices
- Consider the values of the faith-based community when issuing public support
- Maintain neutrality where endorsements may conflict with deeply held religious convictions   We offer this petition in humility and prayer, seeking peace, wisdom, and the continued well-being of our community. Signed,
Concerned citizens of Bowie, TX and Montague County
