Release Wasantha and Siridamma, Stop Further Detentions.

The Issue

Life under draconian laws is the new norm for people in Sri Lanka. They are protesting daily, asking for basic requirements for daily living. The current government, an extension of the highly corrupted previous regime, continues to beat and detain activists using abusive power enclosed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). PTA can detain, torture or even disappear, activists. Three university students are currently being detained for 90 days and planning for more arrests of innocent protestors, and their safety is at risk. People no longer believe in the current government as they failed to protect their livelihood.

People in Sri Lanka are facing the worst economic crisis, vastly due to corruption and mismanagement by the Ranil-Rajapaksa regime. Essential goods are not affordable, and the lineup for gas continues. A recent uprising of the people led former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resign and flee the country as national debts skyrocketed (51 billion USD).

Enough is enough. It's time to secure fundamental human rights and stop the violence against peaceful protesters in Sri Lanka. We pledge support from people around the world to raise voices to release all political detainees, revoke the alleged PTA act, and ultimately go for a general election to find a competent and uncorrupted administration to direct the country to the right path.
