The Issue

September 11, 2001 changed America forever.

Nearly 3,000 innocent people were killed that day. Families lost mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, children, siblings, friends, firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and coworkers.

Every September 11, our country says, “Never Forget.” But for millions of Americans, September 11 is more than a date on the calendar. It is a solemn day of grief, remembrance, reflection, and gratitude.

I am asking Congress to establish September 11 as a federal holiday — a National Day of Remembrance — honoring the victims of the September 11 attacks, the heroes who responded, the survivors, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

This would not be a holiday of celebration. It would be a day of remembrance and national unity — a day for memorial ceremonies, service, reflection, education, and honoring the sacrifices made on and after September 11, 2001.

We remember. We honor. We never Forget...
