I was talking with Ralph Baird, Executive Search Adviser with TES, about how much like the average Joe these sailors are. Some of them are from humble means while others made big sacrifices to live the cruising lifestyle. The only difference between the Nina crew and other hard working Americans is the Nina happened in the Tasman Sea. It could just as easily have been back packing in the Rockies or even a flat tire on a remote road on the way to work. People in trouble depend upon their government to advocate for them and help them solve the problem. That did not happen in this case. Your efforts are why the State Department may not get away with it, and part of the solution to be sure it does not happen to anyone else.
