65 mph Speed Limit: Prioritizing Safety On Garden State Parkway

65 mph Speed Limit: Prioritizing Safety On Garden State Parkway
The Issue
I am a victim of a speeding driver. My car was totaled and due to the force of being rear-ended, my shoulders were thrown out of place and I was in pain for six months. This experience is not unique to me. Every year, thousands of people suffer injuries or even lose their lives due to high-speed accidents.
Now, there is a recent push to get the state of New Jersey to increase the speed limit from 65 mph to 75 mph on the Garden State Parkway. The parkway already has a problem with reckless drivers performing aggressive maneuvers, and doing speeds of 80+ mph. If the speed limit was raised to 75, drivers would easily be doing 90+ mph. Such an increase will lead to more severe accidents and fatalities. According to data from The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), speed limit increases cause an estimated 37,000 deaths over 25 years in the United States.
We must prioritize safety over convenience. We cannot allow such a change that will put our loved ones at risk every time they hit the road. Let's prevent this increase in speed limit and work towards safer roads for all residents in New Jersey.
Please sign this petition today and help stop New Jersey from considering any type of speed limit increase.
Remember, speed kills and lives matter!
