Support Claremont Student Journalism
The Issue
The Student Life, the oldest student newspaper in Southern California, is severely underfunded.
Roughly 100 students, from reporters and photographers to layout designers and web developers, devote a combined 1000+ hours every week to inform our community and provide an important check on our school administrations.
Most work for free. A small subset receive a stipend equivalent to $2.00/hr.
Our annual operating budget from student governments, even when combined with advertising revenue and those days of donated labor, barely keeps us afloat as a publication.
Our barebones printing costs alone put our annual budget at about $20,000. Last year, we received $11,200. We receive no other outside funding, and were only able to continue printing this year because of a generous anonymous donor.
If we don’t receive a sufficient allocation this year, we won’t be able to continue printing or producing visual reporting.
Sign below and share to tell our representatives that this is unacceptable.
