The Issue

Petition Update: Blue Struggles Behind a Hazardous Area while M80’s, Flash Bangs, Fireworks boomed through the night. Posted: June 13, 2025 Dear Supporters, I wanted to share an urgent update on Blue’s condition. Last night, he was left contained behind a fence beyond the main yard with no shelter except under a car and hazardous equipment at Beverly Auto and Dent, struggling for cover as M80s, flashbangs, and fireworks boomed through the night. I could not see him, but, heard him bang against wood planks and debris. The noise and danger have clearly taken a toll, and my heart aches knowing he’s enduring this alone. I just came from an AM wellness check, where he was visible in that area in the AM. Please continue to stand with us as we work to free him into a safe, loving home ready and waiting for him. Thank you for your support.  A new report will be filed.     Request to Officers at North Central: The undersigned residents of Los Angeles and beyond, urgently request your immediate intervention to rescue a 2-year-old dog, named Blue, living in neglectful conditions at Beverly Service Auto Service & Dent. Blue resides on this lot 24/7, caged during the day and left alone at night to guard the property, with no visible license on his collar. The lot is filthy, lacking proper shelter, food, or clean water, and Blue seems to never have been bathed—his fur is matted, with large clumps falling out when combed, as observed on May 19, 2025.
Blue’s isolation is heartbreaking. Despite his circumstances, he is gentle, eagerly accepting affection by pressing his body against the fence for pets, indicating a desperate need for companionship. His thin frame, with visible ribs, reflects ongoing neglect. Community members, including a young Mother and her young son, have been visiting Blue to offer comfort for months, but this is not enough. Neighbors share our concern, witnessing Blue’s suffering daily.
We understand the owner’s need to protect his business, especially as a Korean-American small business owner in an industrial area of Los Angeles, where guard dogs have historically been used for security, as seen during the 1992 LA riots. However, alternatives like security cameras, motion-sensor lights, or community watch programs can provide effective protection without subjecting Blue to neglect. We’re willing to assist the owner in exploring these options to ensure his business remains secure while prioritizing Blue’s well-being.
Blue’s situation violates California Penal Code 597 and LA Municipal Code standards for animal care, and the urgency is heightened by Mayor Bass’s proposed $5 million budget cut to LA Animal Services, which includes closing three city shelters. This will strain resources and delay interventions, leaving Blue at risk of prolonged suffering. We urge LA Animal Services to remove him immediately. Supporters and the Lange foundation are poised to immediately provide Blue with the care he needs. Medical care, vaccinations, training, trauma recovery, and a loving home await him.
