As of today the NSW Government have removed red tape and have allowed statewide culling of kangaroos to take place by anyone wanting to carry out this action.
No tags are required;
Multiple shooters both professional and amateurs can shoot;
Shot kangaroos meat can be used for non-commercial purposes;
Shooting can take place statewide extending out past the current harvest zones;
All sizes from young to adult can be shot.
The government says only 13% of the quota is being currently used and the reason for this is because the commercial shooters must abide by size limits in order to keep a stable population of breeding stock. With these changes all of these precautions have been removed and all agencies, farmers, and industries involved will simply decimate the population of kangaroos to point of extinction, locally, regionally and in the state targeted areas being allowed.
Drought time is the one time that all shooting should be stopped completely as this is the most critical time for our kangaroo population to allow the strongest and fittest animals to survive the drought which keeps the gene pool strong and in place. Nature has been suffering and surviving droughts for millions of years and this interference by humans and irresponsible governments will definitely result in kangaroos and wallabies becoming yet another group of native wildife species disappear in NSW.
Animal welfare groups and the general public should be outraged by these changes because without any monitoring being in place, there will be joeys left alive in pouches, animals being body shot, parties of shooters from the SSAA (Sporting Shooters Association of Australia) and recreational shooters desending on these properties not to mention roadside shootings taking place.
This is and has been happening in Qld now since 2015 and despite continual formal complaints being made to the Department of Environment and Science, NOTHING has been done about this. No inspections have been undertaken and the problem is so bad in some areas, that in order for even the professional shooters to be allowed to shoot on properties in some areas of Qld, the shooter has been told by the farmers/property managers, that they must attend to all females and smaller unsalable kangararoos outside of their commercial activity time to remove them from the environment.
These changes which have been put in place in NSW has simply been done in a 'formal' capacity and the reality is that behind the scenes, this is the very fight we have been battling with now since we were made aware of it.
We ask that instead of becoming outraged on Facebook, that you please take action and contact these people urgently (preferably in writing to leave a paper trail) to object to this activity being allowed to happen.
The exclusion fences which have been erected in Qld and NSW is commonly referred to by farmers, agencies and industry as the "Roo Fence" not the dog fence and not only has it fractured the entire eco-system, making it impossible for the wildlife to move through their corridors, but it was originally designed to allow farmers to move back into sheep farming giving them protection from dog predation. Instead, a lot of farmers who have got their new fence, have chosen NOT to go back into sheep farming and some farmers have even reintroduced dogs within the boundaries of these fences to control kangaroos, goat, pigs and other animals they do not want on their properties.
The Australian Government as a whole has allowed, participated and contributed to paying for with tax payers money in many areas for this activity to take place. It is corrupt, irresponsible, immoral, biased and inhumane behaviour, that at the end of the day, is only about ensuring themselves votes for future elections. This has nothing at all to do with animal welfare or plague proportions of kangaroos in NSW or Qld. It has been an ongoing plan to eradicate the kangaroos from our environment to appease interested parties objecting to them being where they belong.
The Kangaroo Management Plan (KMP) is drawn up every 4 years and signed off by both Federal and State Environment Ministers. To our knowledge and to the knowledge of a politician in NSW we spoke to last night, this KMP has NOT been amended so what the NSW State Government has allowed to happen as of today is UNLAWFUL and ILLEGAL.
Kangaroos no longer have anywhere to call 'home' and as a result, are land locked across Australia, which is what makes them appear to be in 'plague proportions'. Populations of kangaroos has seriously declined over the last decade and the last 3 years has seen drastic declines in NSW.
