Kangaroo movie prompted blood bath against kangaroos

Since the movie “Kangaroo – a love/hate story” has been released, all hell has broken loose and there is wide-spread blood shed and killing of our kangaroos across Australia.
Damage Mitigations or ‘Open season’ permits (depending on what State of Australia you live in), seems to be the ‘norm’ for governments to sign off on. Whilst this has been happening for many years, the intensity of these “KILL ONLY” policies has got completely out of hand. Unlimited number of animals being approved for culling with 3 years to kill them.
Members of the Agricultural Industry have personally told a Kanga Watch volunteer, that “it does not matter what you say or do, we are not going to stop killing kangaroos”. Despite there being mountains of evidence to support that kangaroos DO NOT compete with livestock for pasture, farmers are determined to take matter into their own hands and have kangaroos killed whether it be by legal or illegal means. Waters are being turned off in paddocks and on common land, so that kangaroos and other wildlife are perishing needlessly.
Poisoning with urea being placed at water troughs, illegal recreational hunters and shooters are being allowed regularly to attend properties to kill anything that moves, the government departments are NOT carrying out inspections to ensure that DEMONSTRABLE damage, or ANY damage is in fact being done and instead, these Departments have implemented an ‘automated system’, where applicants can now apply online for a kill permit and have their approval within a few hours.
Groups who have applied to RELOCATE kangaroos to safe zones on private land have been given so many road blocks by the government departments, that in recent cases in multiple States, it has cost these groups, not only a lot of stress but they have had to fundraise to raise up to $100,000-00 just to satisfy these department’s demands, that the animals are better off alive and relocated, then dead and buried as they would prefer see happen, given it is the cheaper option.
Ammunition companies are stating that they are selling tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition to rural towns monthly to local gun stores. Professional Shooters reload their own bullets, so where and what exactly is this amount of ammunition being used on and by whom, is the question.
When these questions have been raised to the relevant authorities, no response has even been received. The best result from writing one of these letters recently received, was a very angry National Parks and Wildlife Officer call me a volunteer and tell them ‘That they are only able to give them ‘generalized information’ regarding any of queries. So there is absolutely no transparency to the public, nor is there any accountability for their actions. It seems that for anyone who start to get a little close to the fire for their comfort, these are the tactics used on these individuals and/or group members.
Few kangaroos or (roadkill) are being seen on highways as they once were. Australia’s kangaroo is all but gone from our environment and yet the killing continues. Where animals are seen, they are seen in small ‘pockets’ across the landscape with the remaining landscape now completely devoid of kangaroos – alive or dead.
The link below is a petition which is to try to stop the killing of yet another ‘land locked’ mob of kangaroos due to poor planning. Without activists taking action against the government for these animals, they will simply be killed under a ‘mitigation permit’ or the direction of the relevant State’s Environmental Protection Agency. https://www.change.org/p/relocate-mernda-mob-of-innocent-kangaroos-before-they-die
Australia’s 4 large kangaroos are at point of collapse in this country and the governments own Annual Reports clearly show this when you break down the reports into densities of animals in the various zones. Kanga Watch volunteers have uncovered variances of 22,567,948 kangaroos since 2010/11 in various reports generated by the government, where these increases are on paper only. That is almost the entire states population of what the Qld State government say live in Qld, without even notating the variances which have been found for the other States.
The kangaroo industry is NOT sustainable and this has been proven since Western Australia closed the Commercial Harvest in 2015 due to the fact that shooters were unable to find enough kangaroos to kill. Western Australia is the largest state in Australia and still this has failed to raised any red flags for the government to step in and act. And killing of kangaroos is still being carried out in this state under Damage Mitigation. One has to ask the question WHY is this ????
Community Gambling Grants are being used by farmers under the umbrella of SWNRM Pty Ltd to fence thousands of kilometres of farm property boundaries. The way this is being manipulated by this group of self-employed individuals is by stating the following : “We provide the community with a service FREE of charge to allow kangaroo water, food, shelter and protection from predators which they would not get elsewhere”. Similar words have been used across States of Qld and New South Wales and whilst in Queensland the very next document which has been circulated states : “Once fencing is erected, mitigation of all non-domestic and feral animals will commence”.
Fencing of these properties was to take place so that graziers could once again go back into sheep farming and be protected from dog attacks by wild dogs. The Birdsville Mayor has spoken out on this stating that he believes farmers are ‘rorting the system simply to get a new boundary fence as they have no intention of going back into sheep farming’.
So effectively they are taking money from the community eg. bowling clubs, tennis clubs, hockey clubs, and other small associations who DO genuinely carry out community work, by using the above scenario. This is highly unethical and immoral when farmers hate kangaroos and make no secret of this fact and are doing everything in their power to exterminate these species from their farm land using any means available. One would have to say this is fraudulent activity and taking money under false pretenses from the documents that have been produced and published to date.
Eradicating kangaroos from Australia is being done on a large scale, the cruelty is abhorrent and these animals are unable to reproduce at the rate in which they are being killed, whether it is by the commercial harvest, damage mitigation or illegal shooting and poisoning. The Tasmanian government poison wallabies and kangaroos using 1080 poison, which can take these marsupials 44 hours to die an excruciating death. No doubt many die from 1080 on the mainland as well, given 1080 is frequently used irresponsibly, using air drops and not being recollected after the recommended period of time.
Kangaroos in Muttaburra Qld have also got a target on their heads after the Shire Council applied and were granted a Mitigation Permit to kill about 150 kangaroos who had been pushed off the ‘common reserve land’, due to livestock being run on this country. It seems that there is no longer any safe place for kangaroos to live in Australia as the Agricultural Industry, Mining and Development have taken up and continue to take up, every spare bit of land there is that can be used.
Please do not sit back and accept this. Extinction is forever. Australia can make BILLIONS of $$$$$ through Tourism rather than the $170 million that is currently being made from the Kangaroo Killing Industry. The ‘hand-outs’ which the tax payer is continually having to give to keep farmers from going broke alone, costs this country a lot of money. Many of the areas in Australia that are being farmed, is not farmable land. All of the prime farm land in Australia is on the coast and now under concrete.
Speak up to your Environment Ministers, the Media and involve activist groups to help save these unique and iconic animals. Australia is happy to put the kangaroo on all of the labels to promote their products for sale, but turn a blind eye to the mass slaughter of these animals who belong on the land and in the environment. And please sign THIS petition as well as the others, to help us speak up for those who have no voice.
Host a private screening of ‘Kangaroo’ so that more people are aware of the plight of our kangaroos.
