$2 billion recovery fund, but spending priorities still need changing

Fiona DicksonCanberra, Australia

The recently announced $2 billion Bushfire Recovery Fund is welcome news, but the proposed War Memorial upgrade spend is still misplaced. This spend has not been supported by many veterans, former War Memorial Director Major-General Steve Gower (see article) and notable Australian leaders.  Sustainable, long term funding of the RFS, fire-affected Indigenous communities, the rebuilding of lives and compensation for lost livelihoods and the enormous restoration requirements for bushland and wildlife are priorities. To keep up the pressure and help create momentum for a national dialogue on spending priorities at this time, it would be wonderful if you could share this petition (if you haven’t already done so). Thank You.
