Let’s create some pressure
Dear petitioners,
Thank you again for your support for this petition. We’ve had a large volume of signatures - now over 7500 - but could do with a lot more. If you haven’t had a chance to share this petition yet, it would be wonderful if you could do so in order to help generate a debate about how the government is using tax payer funding at this critical time.
As many have pointed out in the comments, the War Memorial spend is not the only non-essential spending occurring at the moment. However, it is a large spend that I think everyone, regardless of where you sit on the political spectrum, would legitimately question.
It is the role of governments to ensure there are policies and programs in place to reduce the likelihood of disasters and that there is adequate and sustainable funding for disaster management. In this rapidly changing world, governments need to do the very best, evidence-based prioritisation when allocating tax payer funding.
Take a listen to Dr. Karl’s latest Triple J podcast if you have a moment. It’s full of interest. And some good discussion around RFS funding around the 32 minute mark.
On what is likely to be another catastrophic bushfire and heat day around Australia, I wish you safety and a cool place to be. Thanks again,
Fiona
