For Devon and Cornwall Police to strictly enforce the use of Body Worn Video

For Devon and Cornwall Police to strictly enforce the use of Body Worn Video

The Issue

In light of recent cases of police violence namely the murder of George Floyd and Tony McDade, wherein the use of video was imperative to the justice of the case, these requests from a place of concern for the safety of civilians. The aforementioned cases admittedly took place within the United States, however in lieu of the Stephen Lawrence case amongst others, this clearly is as much a British issue as it is an American one.

Therefore, it is our appeal that it is in the best interest of the public that the existing use of BWV by the Devon and Cornwall Police be implemented to a stricter standard, wherein individual officers no longer have the opportunity to decide whether or not to record whilst on duty.
