In response to recent incidents where Koalas have been hit and killed on the sections of Boundary Road and Pine Mountain Road that run through Whites Hill Reserve, I am petitioning to reduce the speed limits of these sections to 40km per hour between dusk and dawn. This will allow for safer conditions for both drivers and wildlife during periods of increased animal activity, without impacting traffic flow during peak times. Roads around Brisbane where this has already been enforced have proved that it is incredibly effective in reducing the number of wildlife killed and injured by motorists and such a speed reduction is long overdue on these sections of road. We are so fortunate to live amongst such unique wildlife however the constant pressure of urban sprawl and habitat destruction means we must learn to better co-exist in order to protect these already endangered creatures.
