The animal training industry has long been using Positive Reinforcement Training as a primary method of behavior modification in animals. Today it is the method favored by numerous governing organizations, and is backed in its efficacy by science. Traditional confrontational training methods pose a great risk to the safety of the child, and the animal they are working with as they can increase aggression. These methods are outdated, and not founded in sound science. As an educational organization the 4H has an obligation to promote sound science-based animal handling and training methods, in order to best serve the children. Promoting such methods by making the information easily accessible will set the children up for future-success as they gain practice with these methods before going on to animal-based careers. An early start with the right information can jump start the successful futures of these children. I am hopeful that this petition will help to institute change among this organization, by increasing the amount of information available to the children nation-wide. We can impact future generations by promoting a humane and force-free future based in sound science. Thank you for your help!
