We choose to KEEP OUR WELL for our total water source in WLT.
The Issue
If you wish to continue using your well for your water needs sign this petition. Also, if you currently use a POET GAC system or conceivably could need to use one in the future due to water filtration requirements (chemical testing results) continue reading please.
Reasons for West Lakeland Township to favor GAC POETS option over municipal water
• GAC POETS are a better use of the settlement funds.
o There are no infrastructure costs. The POETS option is basically only
administrative costs.
o There is already a system in place with POETS that is working fine, it is not
broken, don’t fix it.
o Maintaining GAC POETS has an estimated cost is $100MM which would last
100 years. This would save $80MM of settlement funds compared to a
municipal solution.
o WLT residents would pay nothing for 100 years.
• There are no additives to well water. It is natural water from the ground run through
an approved method of purification.
• GAC POETS plumbing setup is such that even the outside spigots are sourced
through the GAC. Therefore, irrigation of lawn, garden, or filing a pool will not
spread PFAS.
• If consideration is made for gallons used and level of contaminates the filters could
probably be changed less than once per year on average. This would save money
on number of filter changes.
• GAC POETS is removing all PFAS contaminates.
• Same chemistry as GAC POETS would be used in municipal supply just on a bigger
scale both resulting in PFAS filtration.
• Municipal water means more government in our lives. Additionally:
o Allowing municipal water in the township will allow for rezoning and
development which will change our community in a negative way.
o Eventually MET Council and other government entities will be directing and
influencing more township matters Per the recent WLT survey more residents favor GAC POETS. The survey results presented by Mitre on June 9 are biased and slanted toward municipal water. These findings were not presented:
o Survey question #10 shows that 83% of residents would allow the state to manage
filter change-outs.
o Survey question #11 shows that 91% of residents would allow the state to test their
wells.
o Survey question #6 shows that 42% of residents eligible to connect think the best
long-term solution for West Lakeland is individual GAC POETS.
