Tigers instead of camels?

Hanwant SinghSadri, India

Jun 30, 2019
We have been talking with various stakeholders and it is now emerging that there are plans to turn Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary into Rajasthan's fourth tiger reserve. although doubts have been expressed even by tiger experts about the suitability of the area for tigers. But it appears to be a means of mobilizing both central and international funds and the Forest Department is pushing ahead. Where would the prey base be for the tigers? Already leopards live to 80% on domestic ruminants, so what would tigers prey on, especially if livestock is barred?
Yesterday we were grateful for a meeting with the MP of Rajsamand, Mrs. Diya Kumari who seems to have a grasp of the issues and very graciously promised to look into the situation.
