Petition Bill McKibben to Encourage All, Including Individual, Efforts To Curb CO2 and CH4

Encourage Bill McKibben + 350.org be inclusive and recognize that individual efforts such as reducing animal agriculture consumption or commuting by bicycle are more than just gestures.
A cascade of gestures can become a movement, especially if the ones with the loudest megaphones say "Yes, and...Yes we can". Say "Yes" to the efforts of 350.org AND "yes" to all individual efforts.

This is more important and urgent than ever now that the fossil fuel industry and animal agriculture are poised for rapid expansion while global warming accelerates. Divided we fall, together we stand.

Petition Bill McKibben to Encourage All, Including Individual, Efforts To Curb CO2 and CH4

Bill McKibben, let's be inclusive and recognize that individual efforts such as being vegan or commuting by bicycle are more than just gestures.
A cascade of gestures can become a movement, especially if the ones with the loudest megaphones such as yourself say "Yes, and...Yes we can".

This is more important and urgent than ever. Together we stand, divided we fall.

Given that
- Trump plans on "eliminating all constraints on carbon extraction" [1],
- the American population is less concerned over global warming than in 1990 [2],
- now with only 24% claiming concern over environmental issues of any kind [3],
- the percent of Americans who self identify as environmentalists is down from 78% in 1991 to 42% in 2016 [2],
- by McKibben's his own accounting CH4 is a "terrifying" new impending global warming threat [4],
- animal agriculture is an increasingly significant, by some accounts dominant, source of green house gas (both CO2 & CH4) emissions [5][6],
- veganism and vegetarianism are on the rise in countries with greatest emissions:
- The number of vegans in the UK "has risen by 350% in the past decade" [7].
- Polling by vrg.org shows a 45% increase in vegetarianism in the past decade ([8] vs [9]).
- "recent research suggests 36% of U.S. consumers prefer milk alternatives and use meat alternatives" [10].
- Vegetarianism has reached higher percentages than in the USA in many of the other affluent industrialized nations [11].
We ask McKibben to acknowledge and encourage the important roll of reducing animal based food consumption world-wide. Together we stand, divided we fall.

Recently:
- McKibben states "Against all that, one's Prius is a gesture. A lovely gesture and one that everyone should emulate, but a gesture. Ditto riding
the bike or eating vegan or whatever one's particular point of pride. North Americans are very used to thinking of themselves as individuals, but
as individuals we are powerless to alter the trajectory of climate change in a meaningful manner. The five or ten percent of us who will be moved
to really act (and that's all who ever act on any subject) can't cut the carbon in the atmosphere by more than five or ten percent by those
actions." [12] ...
- ... and then continues with "Movements are what take 5 or 10 percent of people and make them decisive—because in a world where apathy rules,
five or ten percent is an enormous number. Ask the Tea Party. Ask the civil rights movement....The most important thing an individual can do is not
be an individual. Join together—that's why we have movements like 350.org or Green for All, like BlackLivesMatter or Occupy"

Yes, join together--and acknowledge the importance of doing all of the above and more. Together we stand, divided we fall. This is the power of "yes, and..." vs "yes, but...".

We need all the help we can get in any way we can get it to combat global warming. And Individuals saying no to animal agriculture and riding bikes are more likely to stay healthy and have more energy, money (via less health care expense) and thus time to perhaps join additional movements that welcome and value them. And we welcome Bill McKibben to join the movements of the individual vegans and the bike riders. Divided we fall, together we stand.
