35 children aged 6-11 in Ireland with Cystic Fibrosis are currently being denied access to a life-changing drug called Kaftrio, despite being eligible for it. This is because their age/genotype combination was not included in the original pipeline deal between Vertex and the HSE. 

Meanwhile, 140 other children are receiving access from this month. It is worth noting that these 35 children have never before been eligible for Vertex medication and have been counting down the days for access. Their genotypes responded just as well in clinical trials as those receiving access, but this group are only being given access from age 12, instead of age 6 like the others. This is completely immoral and unethical and will affect their quality of life and life expectancy. Many children with CF require frequent antibiotics, IV's, hospitalization, nebulizer treatments, physio and feeding tubes. Kaftrio offers the possibility of longer, more normal lives. Families are devastated and urge your support in finding a speedy resolution that gives equal access to this life-changing medication.
