Why this petition matters

Saudi Arabia has sentenced Salma Al Shehab to 34 years in prison and 34-year travel ban upon her release for using twitter to support women's rights and human rights in Saudi Arabia. Salma is a 34-year-old Leeds PhD student and a mother of two who was arrested in 2021 while visiting Saudi Arabia. Initially she was sentenced to 6 years in prison, following an appeal hearing prosecution demanded a severer sentence, she was sentenced to 34 years in August 2022.
Noura Al Qatani was sentenced to 45 years in Prison and followed by a 45-year travel ban upon her release. She is a mother of 5 who is almost 50 years old with health problems. She was initially sentenced to 14 years in prison and following her appeal hearing her sentence was increased to 45 years. Her crime? using twitter.
Saudi Arabia has jailed and sentenced these two women to 79 years combined for no crime except using twitter and expressing their opinions. These are the longest prison sentences given to any activist and shows how far Saudi Arabia will go to punish and silent anyone who they perceive as criticizing the Kingdom.
Call on Saudi Arabia to immediately and unconditionally release Salma Al Shehab and Noura Al Qatani!
