30 Years Behind Bars : A Call For Justice For Russell Guild
The Issue
In 1996, Russell Guild was sentenced to a combined 90 years in prison for offenses arising from cases in Richmond and Columbia Counties, Georgia. He was just 18-19 years old, with no prior criminal convictions.
More than 30 years later, Russell remains incarcerated. The cases involved no deaths or reported physical injuries. His family has raised serious questions about the evidence which is ONLY 1 eyewitness testimony. Now it lead to missing court records, and a unusually lengthy consecutive sentences.
No firearm or stolen property was recovered from Russell nor any evidence that directly connected him to the alleged robberies. He was convicted based on 1 witness presented at trial's testimony, Russell has consistently maintained his innocence.
During his incarceration, Russell has pursued education, completed vocational and rehabilitative programs, and worked to become a positive influence on others. His Prison conduct record over 30 years not 1 violent offense , he was recently called the Model inmate !
His journey inspired the creation of Justice R Us, a movement dedicated to Awareness, Advocacy, Accountability, and Action for incarcerated individuals and their families.
We are petitioning for:
A thorough, fair review of Russell Guild's convictions, evidence, and sentencing records.
Examination of potential procedural errors and discrepancies in his court and correctional records.
Meaningful consideration of sentencing relief and all available lawful avenues toward his release.
Greater accountability and transparency for individuals and families seeking justice.
We are not asking anyone to ignore the law. We are asking that the law be applied fairly, that legitimate questions receive meaningful answers, and that Russell's case receives careful reconsideration leading to his RELEASE !
