That UTLA is voting to confirm their bargaining position to stay out of school in August is a good sign… But the fight continues nationwide… And the second and third part of our petition speak to funding which is part of the UTLA document and that’s good news… And it also speaks to a reasonable period of time of safety before we re-initiate in person classes… In our petition we write three months… The idea behind the three months… is to get people to recognize the need for time... the time fo do things right. In this way, let’s say that we go forward with distance learning in August… And we see that by September and October nothing has changed… well until things change safety-wise we can’t accept a proposal to go back to school. To start in January we’d have to see safety measures in place by October/ November.. To start school in February Then we would start to advocate for distance learning injured in January… Because you cannot do it overnight… Structural changes have to be made and they have to be made well in advance of any acceptance of opening of schools. So if we were talking theoretically about opening the schools in March .. we’d have to see measure one place by December. the UTLA proposal talks of ‘21 days..’. That’s a step in the right direction.. A step, not a guarantee..So that’s why we have a partial victory. We may lose the vote. Who knows?
that’s why the petition keeps going
