Thank you all.. for signing. Thank all who donated money to help this petition reach more people. I’m .. I can’t find the right word.. I’m overwhelmed.. I’ll do my best to honor your efforts, time, and money when I present this at the board meeting tomorrow..( if they let me speak).
There are other people helping move this petition forward- by introducing it into meetings they attend etc..
This is not a perfect document. But it is timely.. and the feelings of concern and live fir your families and our society that each and every one of you have are perfect. So, again.. thank you.
July 8th- thoughts-
I don’t like that I even had to write this petition.
It bothers me that it’s so popular. It scares me to walk into a market and see people not wearing masks who may very well - either have Covid-19- or be an asymptomatic transmitter.
Some people are having parties and having contests awarding money to the first one who tests positive after the party. Our society,.. is in a messed up place.
Parents.. are worried and scared by and large because they see that public officials are “weighing the risk” vs. “The benefit” of making children go back to school.
Whenever a parent hears something like,”Well the risk to your child is minimal..but the benefit to others is..” their gut reaction is “Eff-no!” As it should be.. because that is their child!
As teachers, it’s also our lives. And even if some of us are willing to risk our lives.. we have to think about the legal precedents we set when we say we are willing to waive our rights to absolute safety in the workplace.. that.. is just contradictory to the principle axiom on which our country was founded;
The right to: “LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”
Just that simple. It goes against everything positive we’ve built in our society.
Ben Franklin said,”An ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure.” It’s true. Prevention is the best medicine. Also true.
These saying apply to the economy as well. The best way to save an economy threatened by a health emergency of this magnitude is to fix the health emergency first.
“First things first.” Another saying.
“Safety first”, another saying.
How many centuries of common sense does one have to spill out on the page until people listen?
It’s ridiculous, sad, and tragic..
