The Issue

Did you hear about Morocco’s horrific decision to be in the running to host the FIFA World Cup?! If not, there are millions of homeless dogs roaming the streets of Morocco and the government has a solution; to slaughter 3 million homeless dogs by 2030. This is their attempt to “clean the streets.” It is a poor excuse and inhumane. Please consider taking the time to read this petition.

The millions of dogs did not choose to be on the streets, but with lack of education and care for pets, dogs continued to reproduce resulting in an incredible number of homeless dogs. This has been deemed a nuisance and a problem for future visitors of the World Cup. Rather than try to come up with a better solution, the government has chosen to slaughter these innocents by any means. 2030 is five years away, and they have already started to enforce their plan while ignoring many voices against this plan. There has to be other ways.

Sadly, FIFA is also ignoring this slaughter and instead of advocating for a better and more humane plan, they have named Morocco as the host for the 2030 World Cup. They had the opportunity to say no to this type of action but chose not to. It is unfortunate, but lack of care for animals is a reality seen too often.

How can you help? First, you can sign this petition and any others you come across. Second, you can send this petition and others to some friends and family. Third, spreading awareness of this event can help people get connected and potentially help with ideas and plans to help the dogs of Morocco. Fourth, contacting shelters and organizations worldwide to see if they could be of any help. Fifth, find organizations that are trying to help get these dogs to safety and donating. Sixth, contacting FIFA World Cup with your thoughts and opinions about their turning a blind eye to this action. Finally, seventh, spreading education about the importance of spaying and neutering pets as well as what the cost of owning a pet is may stop future scenarios such as this. Any of these steps can help save the lives of the dogs in Morocco.
