Davidson Co Commissioners recognized the need to help more people spay and neuter their companion animals, and how this correlates with DCAS becoming a low kill shelter, so they allocated $25,000 to help fund SNIP, a high volume low cost program already put in place to stabilize the pet population, a partnership between local veterinary clinics, Ruff Love Rescue, and Davidson County Animal Alliance. They anticipate spaying and neutering 800 more animals by year end in an effort to control pet overpopulation.
** Every NC county, including Davidson and Randolph Counties already receive very limited state funds reimbursements for qualified/verified low income spay and neuter services. In 2017 Davidson Co received reimbursements of $15,620.05 for 268 procedures and Randolph Co received $8,477.00 for 152 procedures. (Program info available on NC Dept of Agriculture website) DC and RC have similar population, square miles, poverty levels, and home ownership rates. **
