The issue

Currently in Victoria, wildlife rescuers, ESPECIALLY bat rescuers are left stuck without treatment options for fatally injured wildlife who need emergency humane euthanasia after hours.

All vets in Victoria are allowed to refuse treatment to fatally injured bats. This means that euthanasia of these animals often falls to the responsibility of the rescuer, who's only legal and ethical option is the use of blunt force trauma to the head. This can be extremely harmful to the mental health of wildlife rescuers.

We need this to change, to stop the unnecessary suffering of microbats and flying foxes that have obtained injuries incompatible with rehabilitation.

We want to see 24 hour vets require a current rabies vaccination status so that we can bring injured bats in for emergency euthanasia.
