20th Century Fox, Bryan Singer: Bring back James Marsden as Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse

The Issue

In 2006, "X-Men: The Last Stand" hit theaters and fans were eager to see what role Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops the field leader of the X-Men (played by actor James Marsden), would play in the film, given how pivotal his character was to the "Dark Phoenix" saga that the film was partially and loosely based upon. Cyclops had a maximum screen time of four and a half minutes total, if that, before being killed off-screen in the first half hour of the film by his recently-resurrected love, Jean Grey (played by Famke Janssen). This decision caused a major backlash and gained the ire of fans, who wanted to see Cyclops finally get a larger role in the X-Men film series. To this day, some fans still don't think Cyclops was actually killed, since his death was not shown on-screen, and fans thought that meant Cyclops could have returned in the 2014 "X-Men: Days of Future Past".

Despite rumors the character may be in the film, albeit in a small role showing the character somehow is alive by changing the past, even if Cyclops does make cameo appearance, he is still not going to be a main character in the next "X-Men" movie. Director Bryan Singer has said he was going to fix things in terms of the X-Men film series' continuity, but he also said that while he wanted to bring Cyclops back in "Days of Future Past", he was unable to. Of all the things fans wanted to see Bryan Singer fix, though, most fans will unanimously say they were hopeful that Cyclops's return would be the one thing they wanted Mr. Singer to fix the most.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" may yet have Cyclops cameo, but since "Days of Future Past" producer Hutch Parker said a sequel could be made for the cast of the original "X-Men" tirlogy as well as a sequel for the "First Class" cast, we, the fans, are hopeful that if there is an "X-Men" sequel with the original trilogy actors, we would like for James Marsden's Cyclops to come back from the dead somehow, especially since comic characters return from the grave all the time, and finally have a major role as the leader of the X-Men.
