200 + Children Need Time: Extend Peterborough Northview Day School to February 2027

We are writing as parents and families whose children attend the daycare operating within your church. We want to begin by expressing our genuine gratitude. For years, your church has provided a space where our children have been welcomed, nurtured, and cared for. This centre has become a place of safety, stability, and joy — a place where our children experience patience, kindness, and a sense of belonging.
It is from this shared sense of community and care that we are asking you to reconsider the July 31st deadline and grant an extension.
A transition of this magnitude cannot be completed safely or responsibly within the current timeline. Dismantling a licensed childcare centre, securing a new location, completing inspections, and ensuring continuity of care for more than 200 children requires time, planning, and stability.
Rushed transitions place children — especially the youngest and most vulnerable — at risk of emotional distress, disrupted attachment, and instability. We know your church has always placed a high value on the well‑being of children and families. Many of us come from different backgrounds and beliefs, but we all share the conviction that children deserve protection, compassion, and thoughtful care. Extending this timeline would reflect those shared values and honour the trust families have placed in both the daycare and the church.
This need is intensified by the broader childcare crisis in Peterborough. With more than 3,700 children on waitlists and average waits of two years, families have nowhere else to go. Even a temporary closure would create significant hardship for hundreds of households and place additional strain on an already overwhelmed system.
We are not asking to remain indefinitely. We are asking for enough time to ensure a safe, orderly, and child‑centred transition — one that reflects the compassion, responsibility, and care that your church has demonstrated over many years.
We ask that you consider the weight of this decision and the impact it will have on our children, our families, and the dedicated staff who support them every day. Granting an extension would be a meaningful expression of leadership and a strong demonstration of care for the community you serve.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
**Sincerely,
The Parents and Families
