Delay has serious consequences! The longer one goes on dialysis, the lower the chances of a successful transplant. In any case, a transplanted kidney has a life. 10% lose it in a year, and about 50% lose it in about 10 years in a successful transplant. Delay shortens this further. Dialysis costs makes the transplant cost difficult to afford in many cases. There are other bureaucrats & government dignitaries also who when they have the problem, immediately head for transplant unless it is not possible like in V.P. Singh's case who had cancer. Minimum dialysis with transplant as fast as possible is the prescription by all nephrologists. Also living donor transplanted kidneys last much longer. And then the Drs only at various DGHS offices take so long to grant permission. Not their fault, the system needs correction. Other option is to get on to a list of a cadaveric transplant which in any case has a lesser life and your turn comes after years! So where is the cure? What is the cure? The more difficult you make things, the more the thefts if the need is dire! Doesn't anyone understand this human psychology? Time is of essence here and delay is the reality! So delayed that we often lose the person! Dialysis brings along so many complications that by the time the transplant is arranged in some cases somehow, the person is gone!
