Hi everyone!

​My name is Merin Nazli, and I’m an international student from Turkey who recently moved to downtown Detroit. One of the things that attracted me to law was the opportunity to advocate for people and communities - and that is exactly what I strive to do as your 1L class president.

Being new to Detroit, and law school as we all are, I understand what it feels like to be looking for someone who will listen and advocate for you, to make sure your voice is heard. I plan to be that person for you as the class president. During my undergrad, I was an advocate for youth in Juvenile Justice system, where I fought for positive youth development in the court system. This experience strengthened my passion for advocacy and taught me the importance of being a voice for someone. I have previously led a non-profit initiative as well, where I demonstrated my leadership and organizational skills. I do believe that my experiences and dedication make me strong candidate for this position, but most importantly I enjoy bringing communities together and empowering them. I will organize lots of fun events that connect our class together and with upperclassmen, uplifting everyone.
