Last week, the Federal Environment Minister, Josh Frydenberg, decided to reject an application for the expansion of phosphate mining on Christmas Island. Minister Frydenberg cited the likelihood of significant and unacceptable impacts to the environment, including to Abbott's Booby, as the reason for not approving the exploration permit.
This is a big win and reprieve for the unique birds and wildlife of Christmas Island.
Thank you for speaking up for Christmas Island and its amazing birdlife.
