124 Grand Market Expansion

124 Grand Market Expansion
The Issue
It’s the Grand Markets’ 10th season anniversary and we’ve celebrated the year with real trials and tribulations as the goal posts continue to shift for small businesses in Edmonton. The 124 Grand Market has proudly operated in the 124 Street neighbourhood in two locations, providing access to locally grown, produced and handmade products. Since 2012, we have grown this local market place from 18 vendors to a collective of 300+ hundred local brands and expanded in 2018 to a Sunday location on 102 Avenue.
Since the start of the pandemic, The 124 Grand Market has been working diligently with Alberta Health Services, City of Edmonton and the 124 Street Business Association.
It has been mandated by the City of Edmonton and 124 Street Business Association that the market return to pre-covid licensing guidelines. Which means, the market will not be able to utilize the West expansion to prioritize safety of vendors and customers, as most provincial Covid-19 restrictions ease. We have been notified by both parties that the 124 Grand Market can no longer operate in the additional block from 124 to 125 Street to physically distance booths and vendors as of July 1, 2021. On this date, the market will return to its pre-covid operations in a single block location from 124 to 123 Street on 108 Avenue. Patrons attending both locations, will notice that the Sunday location on 102 Avenue and 124 Street has been afforded the additional space through our expansion agreement with the City of Edmonton.
We encourage patrons and stakeholders to fill out the survey over the month of July at 124grandmarket.com and sign the petition to support an expanded foot-print for the Thursday market location. In the event that the market cannot secure additional space to support 60+ vendors and is found to not be able to operate safely and effectively for customers, we will be forced to move the popular, flagship 124 Grand Market location that has been operating harmoniously in the 124 Street neighborhood the last decade.
Thank you for supporting the market!
