10 Point Plan for Nature

The issue

Over the last 230 years, we have significant degraded our ancient lands and seas in the name of progress and now climate change is adding to the problems. It's time for a new paradigm for nature. This 10 Point Plan for Nature will see lands, seas, habitats and species protected, restored and managed sustainably for our future.

In signing this petition I am asking for your support for:

  1. A new for nature paradigm that incorporates Indigenous knowledge about caring for country
  2. A proactive, collaborative national plan to achieve zero emissions for 2050 or sooner
  3. An Environmental Protection Act that effectively protects vulnerable habitat and threatened species and stops development that's anti-nature
  4. A significant increase in funding to protect and restore threatened species and habitat
  5. A major new program to restore and reforest marginal/degraded landscapes in order to capture carbon
  6. A major review of the Murray Darling Basin Plan to better manage scarce water resources, keeps rivers flowing and sustain vulnerable habitats and fish stocks
  7. the rapid expansion of Regenerative Agriculture to improve our fragile soils, address salinity and erosion and transform land management
  8. A new National Plan to permanently protect 30% of Australia's land and seas in line with the UN Biodiversity Convention
  9. the phasing out of logging of native forest and expansion of plantation forestry to meet our timber needs
  10. National standards for the design of urban areas and new buildings to achieve net zero emissions, improve liveability, expand green space and reduce heat effects
