鎌倉文学館敷地一万坪内の旧前田邸を壊さないで下さい。
２０１０年にこの邸が鎌倉市に寄贈された際、前田利裕氏は「建物の外観を残すことを希望、カフェなどの活用を提案した」、これに対して松尾市長は「素晴らしいものにしていきたい」と応じた、と朝日新聞（2010,2025）は伝えています。
当会が「ここは市民のものですか、それとも市長のものですか？」とお聞きした時も、はっきりと「市民のものです」とお答えになりました。このことを市長はお忘れではないはずです。
市民の知らぬ間に、市民の声を聞かず、市民を無視して壊すことは約束違反です。
1890年以来、鎌倉の諸偉人達と共に近代文化に貢献した武家の名門加賀藩前田家の想いが詰まったこの建物は鎌倉の、そして日本の宝です。壊す前にまだ事情を知らない多くの市民に建物を開放し、その活用方法について話し合う場を設けるべきです。
鎌倉・別荘文化の先駆け、旧前田邸は文学館と一体です。市民は再考を願っています！

Petition Statement
— Protecting Kamakura's Historic Villa Culture —
Please do not demolish the former Maeda Villa located on the grounds of the Kamakura Museum of Literature.
The building now threatened with demolition is the Maeda Villa, a smaller Western-style residence situated within the 3.3-hectare grounds of the Kamakura Museum of Literature.
When the Villa was donated to Kamakura City in 2010, Mr. Toshihiro Maeda, the sixteenth head of the Maeda family, former lords of Kaga Domain, expressed his wish that the exterior of the building be preserved and suggested that it could be utilized for public purposes such as a café. According to The Asahi Shimbun (2010 and 2025), Mayor Matsuo responded that he wished to make it “something truly wonderful.”
When our association once asked, “Does this property belong to the citizens or to the mayor?”, Mayor Matsuo answered clearly: “It belongs to the citizens.” We trust that he has not forgotten those words.
However, Kamakura City is currently proceeding with plans to demolish the Villa and replace it with a newly constructed visitor center and café as part of the redevelopment of the museum grounds. This proposal has raised serious concerns among citizens and supporters of historic preservation, who believe that the existing building should instead be preserved and put to public use.
To proceed with the demolition of this historic residence without giving due consideration to the voices and wishes of the citizens would constitute a breach of that promise.
Since 1890, the Maeda family, together with many prominent figures associated with Kamakura, have contributed to the development of modern Japanese culture. Filled with history and memories, the Villa is a treasure of Kamakura and of Japan.
Before any irreversible decision is made, the building should first be opened to the many citizens who are still unaware of the circumstances, and opportunities should be provided for public discussion on how best to preserve and utilize it.
As one of the pioneers of Kamakura's villa culture, the Villa is inseparable from the Kamakura Museum of Literature. Together, they form an important part of Kamakura's cultural landscape.
The citizens of Kamakura earnestly call for a reconsideration of the demolition plan.
